Elections Are Often Won Without a Majority Winner
Too frequently elections are won without a true majority winner.
Recent examples include the 2017 Provo Primary Mayoral Election (40.4%) and the 2016 Presidential Election (45.1%).
Finally, a true majority winner
Ranked choice voting ensures a majority winner. If a voter’s first choice is eliminated, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th choices are used in subsequent rounds. The process of elimination continues until a candidate receives a majority of the votes and is declared the winner.
